Have you ever wondered... what happens in the daily lives of students in RGS? Here's your chance to find out! This is a mini-video project by SPSB'14 done with the aim to add a touch of giggles and happiness in your lives during this stressful period :) Sit back and enjoy!
Write a Love Letter To Yourself
TGT (standing for ToGeTher or TeoGohTan (the surnames of our PSB'14 heads; Celestine Teo, Julia Goh and Tricia Tan)), embarked on a mini-initiative during March to encourage students to show appreciation for that one person they always leave out: themselves. TGT set up a mini booth in the canteen where students could grab a piece of pretty paper and colourful stickers, and write a mushy love letter to themselves. Always remember to love yourself as much as you love others!
PSB Board
PSB Board Revamp 2014 was completed in early March. The PSB Board allows visitors, for example, parents or other schools’ teachers, to know more about PSB in RGS. It includes our VMGs, Board Structure, Contact Information and more.
Supörté
The Supörté Convention is organized by Cedar Girls’ Secondary School and Victoria School. Inaugurated in 2011, Supörté aims to inculcate, among students, a culture of Peer Support to enrich their leadership experience. This convention is a good platform where students can share and learn best practices on Peer Support.
PSB sent 9 PSLs to the 2-day Supörté Convention on the 18th and 19th March. During Supörté, students engaged in a series of training, discussions and talks by invited guests. We were given the opportunities to pick up skills on being an effective Peer Supporter and put our current skills and knowledge into practice.
On top of that, we had a lot of fun and were able to share our experiences with other leaders, while listening to their experiences as well.
Welfare Session 1
Welfare sessions aim to promote board bonding and relaxation. It is where PSLs just relax and have fun after a hectic term.
During Welfare Session 1, PSLs played human fuse ball and captains ball. We had a lot of fun competing against each other and sweating our hearts our! Afterwards, we had Committee appreciation where the Committee heads gave a speech to their committees and a little present.
Then, everyone was to sew a piece of felt, which in the end, pieced together to form a pretty picture (as can be seen in the photo). This shows that everyone has a role to play in PSB. We were also tasked to write an introduction to ourselves, including our good points and our flaws. This allowed us to show self-appreciation. J
Held during the March holidays, Welfare Session 1 was indeed a success! Everyone had an enjoyable time and bonded more with their fellow PSLs.
PSB SKM
PSB SKM officially began on the 28th March 2014. The theme for this year’s SKM is “a spark of kindness starts with one thoughtful me”. This is in line with 2014’s theme “Let our Light Shine”. Just like how it only takes a spark to get the fire going, it only takes a spark to get the kindness going! J
So, what is SKM?
Kindness is in everyone. The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) wants to encourage everyone to start, show and share kindness. We aspire to inspire graciousness one kind act at a time. By sparing a thought for the people around us, we hope to create a gracious society, and make life better for you and me.
We will be having many initiatives, including Appreciation Days where we give special thanks to the different people in the school, tie-in initiatives with some school-wide events such as Sports Fest and Racial Harmony Day, as well as many others! Through these initiatives, we hope to spread kindness to many people, and show how acts of kindness as small as a spark, like giving a small note to a friend, may mean a lot to the receiver. This may motivate her to do kind acts to others as well, and start of a chain reaction. Upcoming initiatives of PSB SKM includes Jam Jar Collection Drive, Quotiful Friday and A Kind Act a Day (AKAD) #rgsAKAD.
Please help to like SKM’s Facebook page at facebook.com/rgskm2014 and follow our twitter account @rgskm2014! J If possible, do get your friends to like/follow us too! We really appreciate your help! Also, feel free to use our hashtag #rgsAKAD and post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram on kind acts you received, did or witnessed! Together, we can start a documentation of kind acts! <3 Thank you for helping us, your kindness will go a long way.
The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) aims to promote the values of kindness in schools through the Friend of Singa programme, spreading kindness and making life more pleasant for everyone.
