What happened in july?

MaPS – Mass PSL Session
For the first time ever, PSB held a Mass PSL Session! The Year 1s came together as a batch for this session, which was conducted to the theme of ‘Ignite Someone’s Light’. The theme links to our school theme this year, Let Our Light Shine. It encourages Y1s to come together as a batch and encourage those around them.
The Y1s went around the school in their classes playing games at different stations. We’re sure the Y1s had a good time playing all the games and taking away something new at the end of the session!
The session ended off with the Y1s singing their orientation song, Shine! Heart-shaped stickers were distributed as mementos to this event. This Mass PSL Session was indeed a new experience for us and we were greatly heartened to see the Y1s participate and enjoy themselves that afternoon!
FAITH Mega Event
FAITH Mega Event was a joyous session held with the elderly from O’Joy. We held a 2 hour-long session at Geylang West Community Club for around 100 elderly. Breaking into smaller groups, we had simple activities such as basket-weaving, gardening and karaoke. We spent a good afternoon talking and interacting with the elderly over these activities. The elderly enjoyed our activities tremendously, and we too enjoyed the time spent with them that afternoon.
The entire FAITH experience was an eye-opener for many of us, where we learnt to appreciate what we have and serve those around us with a smile J It was a great learning experience for all of us and we look forward to collaborating with O’Joy for more of such activities in the future!
Board Retreat
Board Retreat 2014 was held on Saturday, the 26th of July! It was a fun-filled event when all PSLs came together for a time of bonding and learning. The day started off with icebreakers and a training session that taught us that there is no perfect PSL!
After which, PSLs split into different teams and had a good time splattering each other with paint as they went through an obstacle course! This activity was to teach PSLs about how people come into their lives and impact them as they go along their life journey. Of course, it was an exhilarating time as we splattered each other with paint!
Another notable event would be our JPSB Induction! Our JPSLs (Junior Peer Support Leaders) have been officially inducted into our board, all set with their new collar pins. It was a meaningful and symbolic session to welcome our new JPSLs as the youngest dolphins in our family, with the singing of board songs to round up the induction.
Last but not least, we had night surprise! The graduating batch of SPSLs showed horrifying videos and acted well to leave everyone shuddering in fear. We were brought through a course blindfolded, tasked to different activities after being shouted at. Though it was rather terrifying, it was a good activity to end off this bonding session!
Board Retreat indeed was a memorable time as it marked the start of our JPSLs’ journeys and the end of our SPSLs time in RGS PSB. At this juncture, we would just like to thank SPSB’14 for their dedication and love for the board that has brought us to where we are today, and wish JPSB’14 all the best in their upcoming PSB journey!
SKM
There were of course also activities put up by RGS SKM OT in the month of July! Notable events would include Appreciation Day 4, where we thanked our vendors – the Macbook Personnel, the Good News Café aunties and the bookshop aunty – and the Racial Harmony Day celebration!
Racial Harmony Day, celebrated on 21st July, was indeed a big occasion for our school! SKM OT set up a booth in the canteen selling polaroids and friendship bracelets. This was linked to the theme of appreciating all our friends around us – regardless of race, language or religion. The upbeat atmosphere that day was really infectious and the response to these initiatives was undeniably overwhelming!
Last but not least, SKM OT conducted 5 Days of Kindness! Students pledged to do the kindness challenges sent out each day and posted pictures of them in action on twitter, hashtagging #rgs5dok! Some of the challenges included making a care package, leaving kind notes around school and treating our friends to a drink! It was extremely wonderful to see so many members of the school community actively participating in this initiative, to bring more kindness to those around us.
