Year 1 Orientation 2014
PSB kicked off the new year with Year 1 orientation 2014! Welcoming the Year 1s into our Rafflesian family has always been an important part of our PSB year. For 2014, RGS chose the theme “Let our Light Shine”, encouraging everyone to reach our fullest potential. Of course, before orientation officially started, preparations were well underway. Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) met up during the December school holidays to prepare for our Night Surprise performance for the Year 1s, as well as the first PSL sessions of the new year. To start off the Year 1s journey in RGS, PSLs held an icebreakers session for each class to get to know each other. Icebreakers included name games such as double whacko and energizer games like cat and mouse to get the Year 1s hyped up for orientation. The session was filled with much joy and laughter as the Year 1s met new friends through the fun and games. Year 1s playing Icebreakers with their classmates on the first day of school. As might be expected, all the PSLs were very excited for our first PSL sessions of the year! Held within orientation week and orientation camp, we met the Year 1s in the classes we were in-charge of and introduced them to RGS life. Topics such as “Inculcating the Spirit” and “Meyoutiful” (self-respect) were covered. Through more games, activities and discussions, the Year 1s warmed up to one another and bonded as a class.
Eventually, however, the highlight of the Orientation programme was still the overnight orientation camp! Staying overnight with the Year 1s left some PSLs rather sleepy the second day but needless to say, we had a whale of a time with the Year 1s. Their liveliness and enthusiasm were infectious and it was indeed a memorable time. The much anticipated Night Surprise performance was held on the first night of the camp, with PSB doing a dance to show how RGS girls should not focus solely on studying, but enjoy other aspects of life as well. The Year 1s enjoyed the performance tremendously, cheering for their PSLs.
To close off the entire orientation programme, each Year 1 class put up a performance during the orientation concert. Watching the Year 1s work together as a class during the planning stage and finally seeing all their hard work come to fruition on the stage was definitely heartwarming for the PSLs.
Year 1 Orientation 2014 may have been a tiring journey but it was undeniably worthwhile. Watching the Year 1s grow to be more confident and more bonded as a class gave PSLs a sense of fulfillment and happiness. The Year 1s had indeed let their light shine.

General Meeting 1
General Meeting (GM) 1 was held on the 29th of January, where all the PSLs and Year 2 Student Leader Trainees (SLTs) gathered as a board. For the SLTs, this was their first GM to let them understand more about PSB. For the rest of the PSLs, it was a time to catch up with our committees and be updated about happenings in the board.
The GM started off with energizers and an introduction by our chairpersons. The board was briefed on the general outline of board events and procedures for 2014 before we split up into our committees to bond and discuss our work. We had an additional bonus from our T&D committee who put together a short crash course video on conducting PSL sessions.
It was a good time for all of us as we were reminded once again of our purpose as a PSL and our role in realizing our vision of a caring and supportive school community.
PSB Chinese New Year Party
PSB’s Chinese New Year (CNY) Party is an annual event organised by Human Resource for the board. It is a time for board members to get together and celebrate the festive occasion over food and fun. We had traditional practices like eating Yu sheng and the distribution of red packets!
It was a time of great fun and bonding as PSLs and SLTs had the opportunity to catch up with one another amidst the hustle of school life. The festive atmosphere was definitely in the air as we looked forward to celebrating Chinese New Year!
