Valentine’s Day (14th February)
“Babe in my mind, you’re always trending.” Or perhaps, “If you were a tweet, I’d favourite you, but I wouldn’t retweet you. I don’t want to share you with anyone else.” Cheesy or not, these cheeky pickup lines were the hottest topics of the day.
Well, who said that Valentine’s Day was exclusive to the lads and lasses? Here in RGS, we celebrate Valentine’s Day just as wholeheartedly! 14TH February was no ordinary day, this year. The day started off on a sweet note, with the “Friday Morning Sweet Somethings”. PSLs were stationed at the gates of the school ready to flash their best pick-up smiles and to distribute pickup lines to the morning rush of students. It was heartening to see the tired faces of Rafflesians brighten up at the sight of the pick-up lines. Or maybe it was the PSLs? Nevertheless, it was undoubtedly a smiley and sweet start to the day.
In recent times, it is not uncommon to find the school canteen filled with throngs of students singing their heart out during recesses and lunch breaks. This inspired PSB to have a song dedication booth up and running on the recess of Valentine’s Day as well. PSLs played DJs, with students rushing to dedicate songs for their peers, spreading the message of love through songs. Especially, with the unanticipated breaks of melodious chorale that resounded through the love-filled air.
Furthermore, the day was also hailed as the Free Hugs Day whereby those in need of a comforting hug, could readily get one- Free of Charge! No matter how small a gesture, a hug could be, its impact could be unimaginably huge! Hugs might just take seconds to deliver but it could significantly brighten up a person’s day. Besides, there could be no simpler way to express one’s love and concern than with a hug, right?
From countless exchanges of chocolates to the sheer overwhelming number of pickup lines shoved in people’s faces, Valentine’s Day this year was filled with love and laughter.
With love almost tangibly in the air, bunches of cheeky yet cheesy pickup lines were distributed to the school population. Pickup lines, ranging from denatured proteins to Jamaicans, had a way with Rafflesians and it was heartening to see everyone just have a wonderful time. Besides that, balloons were also distributed to classes and everyone was encouraged to write little Valentine notes to one another.
A little note could go a long way in making someone’s day
When better than on Valentine’s Day?
General Meeting 3 (26 February 2014)
GM 3 was held on 26 February and was the final event for the month. General Meetings serve as informative platforms for monthly evaluation, reflection and also as time to wind down with fellow PSLs.
This general meeting started off on a light note, with an icebreaker to get to know the new Student Leader Trainees (SLTs) who have joined PSB on an internship. General Meetings are time set aside for specific committees to let the rest of the board know about special initiatives and progress we have made. This helps to enlighten all the members of the board on the happenings of the board.
During this General Meeting, many new initiatives such as our Board Revamp, PSB Website and PSB Facebook page, were made known to PSLs. Following that, we were also especially excited to know about the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) that we will be participating in this year. Many interesting activities specially catered to the school population have also been planned. SKM is a very integral part of our efforts to reach out to the school population and has never failed to be so much of fun!
Especially during this GM, time was allocated for bonding time as a batch. This served as valuable time for S/PSLs to get to know their own batch mates in the board better. The fast pace and upbeat lifestyles we lead as students sometimes deprives us of the time to wind down and get to know each other better. This time hence was of much use for us to get to know each other better, through fun and games.
In essence, this GM allowed all of us PSLs to be informed on the new initiatives and progress that our board was making. Moreover, it was also a good avenue for evaluation and reflection and ultimately a good time to wind down with the peer support board family.
