WHAT HAPPENED IN JANUARY 2015?

Year 1 Orientation 2015
This year, PSB kick-started the year with Year 1 Orientation 2015. In conjunction with SG50, the orientation theme for this year is “One Heart, One Voice”. For any thirteen-year-old, the transition from Primary school to Secondary school is rather sudden and drastic. In a foreign environment with new rules, new systems, new people - it is hard not to be overwhelmed. To ensure smooth and efficient integration of Year 1s into the Raffles family, all four Lead Boards have started preparations for this long-awaited event since December last year. The Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) met up during the December holidays to discuss the manner in which they would conduct the introductory PSL sessions, attending training sessions as well so that they may become better PSLs for the Y1s and the school.
While the Y3 PSLs were away at Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) during Orientation, the Y4 SPSLs executed Orientation - including PSL sessions and Overnight Camp - with efficiency. During the first three PSL sessions, the SPSLs had planned icebreaker games to allow the Year 1s to interact with each other while having fun, not forgetting inculcating a sense of pride and belonging to the Raffles family through skits and performances. Throughout Orientation, the Y1s had certainly had fun and grown closer to one another, especially during the Overnight Camp. The Y1s had come together in their classes to put up a mini-concert without any knowledge of the Night Surprise that PSB had in store for them.
Finally, Orientation 2015 was drawn to a close with Badge Initiation Ceremony on 9 January. The Badge Initiation Ceremony is an event which would officially recognise the Y1s as members of the Raffles family with the pinning on of the badge. The first candle was lit, followed the second, then the third - and all these candles were passed from teachers to students, seniors to juniors, signifying the passing on of the RGS legacy. In the darkness, the candles glowed like countless fireflies. Surrounded by seniors, friends and families, the Y1s recited the Rafflesian Pledge with their palms held high. With their badges pinned on, they could now say with pride, “I am an RGS girl.”
General Meeting (GM) 2
General Meeting 2 was held on 21 January 2015 immediately after PSL Session 4, which was also the first PSL session conducted by PSLs after returning from OBS. All members of PSB gathered to be updated on the proposal writing procedures, after which they sat with their ClassIcs for the PSLs to reflect on their very first PSL session. It was also a platform for SPSLs to give constructive feedback. To end off the meeting, the Open Organising Team (OT) allocations were announced.
